5 Reasons To Visit Costa Rica Toward Green Season’s End

Costa Rica’s Green Season is abundant with beauty and adventure- especially as the rain begins to ebb!

Costa Rica’s green season is, without a doubt, my favorite part of the year; and, it gets even better as green season starts to come to an end.

Though it rains almost daily during green season in Costa Rica, it typically rains only in the afternoon or evening. Toward the end of the season, however, the rains almost completely stop, making it- in my opinion-  the best time of year to visit.

Here are five reasons why:

Costa Rica’s rivers are high and its waterfalls are magnificent

As the rainy season comes to a close, those visiting Costa Rica will especially enjoy the abundance of water left behind by those seasonal daily showers.

River rafting is fun any time of year in Costa Rica, but at the end of the green season, it’s an especially exciting sport because the water is high, the rapids are fast, and those plunges over rocks and around bends can be especially thrilling to the adrenalin junkies among us. In addition to the class III, IV and V rapids found all over the country, the sun will be shining and only the river will have you happily you soaked.

With running water everywhere, you will be delighted by Costa Rica’s crashing waterfalls. Found all over the country, you’ll catch sight of impromptu falls on the side of the road as you meander through the mountains that surround San Jose while headed toward exciting destinations in every direction. Ready for something more spectacular? Be sure to explore the grander, more famous falls in Costa Rica’s magical hot spots such as La Paz Waterfall Gardens or Rio Celeste’s Tenorio National Park.

Everything is lush and green this time of year in Costa Rica

Hikers and nature lovers will be in heaven as the rains come to an end, the winds pick up a bit, and the forests of Costa Rica are at their most beautiful, green and lush splendor.

An explorer’s paradise, Costa Rica boasts 28 national forests, three of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. With more sunshine to enjoy the outdoors, hikers will be delighted by an explosion of color; flowers, birds, butterflies, plants, animals, and insects are all just waiting to be discovered.

End of green season days are generally bright and breezy

The winds pick up in early November and continue on through December, making each day bright and sunny, yet cool, breezy, and comfortable. This is a great time for outdoor activities, adventures and exploration, as it’s not too hot, but not too cold either.

Costa Rica can get pretty hot in the dry season; especially at the beaches. Likewise, it can get pretty cold during wet season, especially in the mountains and cloud forests. No matter what time of year it is, it’s always a good idea to pack layers and a light, waterproof jacket. During the tail-end of green season, you can expect light, brief showers at any given moment; not to worry though! They usually pass quickly.

Rates are still green-season-low and the crowds are minimal

Often called the “shoulder season,” this end-of-green season period is a great time to travel for those looking to avoid big crowds of tourists, and save a little money. Great rates can still be found on accommodations, tours and activities, and booking will be easy as demand is lower just prior to the holidays, and following the heavy rains.

Costa Rica is a perfect respite right before the holiday season begins

Finally, the end of green season falls just before the holiday season. By visiting Costa Rica during this time, you’ll be able to rest up, catch your breath, and get in a little soul-balance before the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, school vacation, snowy weather, and all those family  gatherings, holiday get-togethers and office parties that you’re obliged to attend.

Any time of year is a great time of year to visit Costa Rica. However, if you’re looking for that perfect balance of lush green forests, rushing rivers and falls, cool but comfortable weather, great rates, and fewer people, then the end of green season is the perfect time for you.5 Reasons To Visit Costa Rica Toward Green Season’s End
